This weekend’s Made in Denmark European Tour event marks the last counting event for Ryder Cup qualification for Thomas Bjorn’s team.  The Ryder Cup is only a month away now so the fever is starting to grow.  There’s no sporting event like it for me and this year’s event in Paris is sure to be great.  Can Europe get the cup back from a very very strong USA team?

It looks like the 8 European qualifiers are likely to be Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, John Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Alex Noren and Thorbjorn Olesen.  Sometimes you get a qualifier or 2 that you’re not 100% convinced on even though they are there on merit.  Personally I don’t think that’s the case this year.  That is 8 top players right there.

Captain Thomas Bjorn has 4 picks this year, a change from 3 picks for the last couple of Ryder Cups.  I think Monty was the last captain to have 4 picks.  Criteria tends to get changed from time to time.

So, the big question is, who does Bjorn pick??  Bubble players are the likes of;

Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Ian Poulter, Russell Knox, Eddie Pepperell, Paul Casey, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Ross Fisher, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson.

My Scottish and Highlander bias would like to see Knox get a pick but I’m not convinced he will.  For me it’s likely to be Rafa and Poults as they’re right on the bubble and Poults especially has a great RC record.   I’d probably lean towards Casey and Sergio for the other 2 picks.  Sergio doesn’t seem to have much form since winning his first major in 2017 but his RC record speaks for itself and him and Rafa were good together 2 years ago.  I think Casey is a top player who really should be playing Ryder Cups.

Who are your picks?  Let me know in the comments or on my social media channels?  Would be interesting to hear your views.
